The Center for Cultural Power’s Movement to the Ballot Box (M2BB) is a campaign that brings artists and movement groups together in powerful partnerships to engage voters, transform narratives, and change culture.

At the heart of this movement are the artists whose creative work inspires and informs voters. They directly address issues impacting their lives and communities, offering personal and intersectional perspectives on the significance of elections. Their art not only encourages civic engagement but also sparks dialogue about systemic issues and the power of collective action.

Since 2020, M2BB has engaged dozens of artists by commissioning original artwork. In 2024, M2BB supported thirteen movement partner organizations and commissioned eight artists for campaigns in Arizona, Texas, Nevada, Ohio, and Georgia. By engaging voters in ways that traditional campaigns cannot, M2BB has shifted the narrative of what is possible, creating and highlighting stories that remind us of our collective power, draw attention to the urgency of the moment, and catalyze us to act.

Our Impact Report demonstrates how Movement to the Ballot Box assisted movement organizations in strengthening their collaborations with artists and advancing toward their broader cultural change objectives, which included voter mobilization, but not as their sole strategy. These collaborations also created space for radical imagination, allowing people to creatively engage with the art and each other, providing opportunities for connection and deep introspection.

Movement to the Ballot Box art was also shared online, reaching a national audience of over 3 million and engaging more than 85,000 people.  Audience response testing found that four of the nine art pieces had a statistically significant effect on increasing certain BIPOC respondents’ likelihood of voting and/or enthusiasm for the 2024 elections.
